W06 Reflection: Legal Structure

 Legal structure is difficult. There are so many laws and regulations and different requirements that make this ridiculous in my opinion. And the laws change from state to state making it near impossible to create a business without jumping through hoops.
In a previous post I believe I mentioned I don't understand business all that well. So this week having to delve deep into legal structure and implications was difficult. I also didn't know how to navigate the recommended sites because I didn't know what to look up. 

For this class they want us to create a small ecommerce business online and do a deep dive into what it truly takes to start a business. I didn't know so many businesses had to register and gain a license, permit and declare profit as business revenue for tax reasons. Even small inconsequential businesses have to do these things. It makes me think that buying a business might be easier because it's already all set up instead of having to register a new business in the state.

Week 3 Sourcing the Product

       This week truly showed me how little I know about starting a business. We talked about and learned about brokers, manufactures and wholesalers. We also learned about affiliate marketing and drop shipping. When I started this program I knew nothing about business, now that I'm almost done with the program, I thought I knew something. As it turns out I have no idea what I'm doing or how much thought should actually go into a business. When I completed the assignments before the discussions I believed I gave the group we're talking about good advice. Then I went to the discussions and realized I hadn't considered the ideas from every angle. I know that you don't have to consider every single angle before you start, as if you did you'd never start, but this week taught me that I need to do more lateral thinking before starting. Week 2: Choosing a Business

      This week has been eventful for me. I have read a few articles or case studies that are about this group of friends who want to make an online business. To me it's interesting that they want to dive right into the online forum when they have no previous experience. I guess I'm not that much of a risk taker. As I was reading my classmates comments on what this group should do and use for their business I find myself baffled at the lack of foresight some have when creating a business. They are commenting about start up costs and revenue ideas, I think of how these things might be accomplished. What they might actually do to create revenue, and what this group could best use as a learning experience. When I think of this group of inexperienced friends I wonder if they'll actually be successful with my suggestions or if other people might have more insight than I do. W05 Reflection: Site Design

 This week we learned about site design and construction. Mostly we learned the basics about what makes a website appealing to it's intended audience, like formatting and font. We learned about how setting up an ecommerce website takes more than just designing a pleasing page. One of the things that shocked me most was the ignorance of the class in the last discussion. I admit I have little knowledge of how websites are programed or built. My most intensive experience (aside from this class) is when I created my portfolio website on Wix.com. But my husband works creating computers and programs for fun so I do have an idea of how much time it takes. The question for the discussion was how do ecommerce websites handle setting up things like taxes and shipping costs and most people in the discussion just agreed to it.
