W08 Reflection: Ads

 I both enjoyed and disliked this weeks assignments. We learned how to create targeted ads in Google ads. We talked about Headlines and descriptions, We learned how to pin headlines and how to make the ad look good at a top spot. We learned how to think through a persons psyche when they're searching for our services. I think the most informative was the video we watched detailing how to do things. I did enjoy learning how to make an ad descriptive enough but short enough to entice a customer. 

I disliked having to create headlines and descriptions for it though. I came up with a handful easily but I know that my business is rather niche and in order to gain lots of traction, I wanted to appeal to as many people as I could, so I said I would come up with 15 or so. It was hard. 

I also have such a niche business that coming up with several descriptions was hard because I only have the one service. I think if you offered many services it would be easier but that's just me.

Week 3 Sourcing the Product

       This week truly showed me how little I know about starting a business. We talked about and learned about brokers, manufactures and wholesalers. We also learned about affiliate marketing and drop shipping. When I started this program I knew nothing about business, now that I'm almost done with the program, I thought I knew something. As it turns out I have no idea what I'm doing or how much thought should actually go into a business. When I completed the assignments before the discussions I believed I gave the group we're talking about good advice. Then I went to the discussions and realized I hadn't considered the ideas from every angle. I know that you don't have to consider every single angle before you start, as if you did you'd never start, but this week taught me that I need to do more lateral thinking before starting. Consider more consequences and more ideas before jumping in.

Week 2: Choosing a Business

      This week has been eventful for me. I have read a few articles or case studies that are about this group of friends who want to make an online business. To me it's interesting that they want to dive right into the online forum when they have no previous experience. I guess I'm not that much of a risk taker. As I was reading my classmates comments on what this group should do and use for their business I find myself baffled at the lack of foresight some have when creating a business. They are commenting about start up costs and revenue ideas, I think of how these things might be accomplished. What they might actually do to create revenue, and what this group could best use as a learning experience. When I think of this group of inexperienced friends I wonder if they'll actually be successful with my suggestions or if other people might have more insight than I do. W05 Reflection: Site Design

 This week we learned about site design and construction. Mostly we learned the basics about what makes a website appealing to it's intended audience, like formatting and font. We learned about how setting up an ecommerce website takes more than just designing a pleasing page. One of the things that shocked me most was the ignorance of the class in the last discussion. I admit I have little knowledge of how websites are programed or built. My most intensive experience (aside from this class) is when I created my portfolio website on Wix.com. But my husband works creating computers and programs for fun so I do have an idea of how much time it takes. The question for the discussion was how do ecommerce websites handle setting up things like taxes and shipping costs and most people in the discussion just agreed to it.
